CREDITAS Expands into Western Europe
September 10, 2025
CREDITAS Group now operates in six European countries, having recently finalised the acquisition of MeDirect Bank, which has operations in Malta and Belgium. This step marks a historic milestone for the Czech Banka CREDITAS, strengthening its position in the Western European banking market.

“Acquiring MeDirect is a key strategic milestone for the entire CREDITAS Group. Our ambition is to build a strong European player that combines the stability and capital strength of Banka CREDITAS with the technological know-how and international background of MeDirect,” says Jiří Hrouda, CEO of CREDITAS Group. He adds: “The acquisition brings numerous synergies and allows us to offer a broader range of services to clients in the Czech Republic, Malta and Belgium.”
MeDirect Bank is a pan-European digital bank focused on retail banking and investment products. It serves more than 155,000 clients, has total assets of nearly EUR 6 billion, manages client investments worth almost EUR 2 billion and holds capital exceeding EUR 250 million. With approximately 400 employees, it ranks among the three largest banking groups in Malta and is recognised as a systemically important institution supervised by the European Central Bank.
“This step confirms our long-term strategy of diversification and expansion beyond the Czech Republic. By entering the Western European banking markets, we are opening new opportunities for our clients and employees while strengthening CREDITAS Group’s position across Europe,” adds Tomáš Hubáček, co-owner of CREDITAS Group.
The Group’s European expansion has been underway for some time. Banka CREDITAS owns its subsidiary CREDITAS Rail in Austria. The energy division, UCED, entered Poland and Slovakia last year.
